Symbian – operating system for mobile phones and Smartphones

Symbian a pretty young operating system, originated in 1997, under the name “ EPOC ”. One hears the name of Symbian is relatively rare, but the operating system for mobile phones, smartphones and PDAs with a market share of around (estimated) 80% is very common in the Smartphone sector. EPOC ran mainly to this point Psions devices. in 1998, became independent of the Psion group company Symbian and with her founded the eponymous software. Now, the (then) four largest mobile phone manufacturers were also aboard: Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola and Panasonic. Later joined even Siemens, Samsung and Sony Ericsson. Other companies such as BenQ licensed the product and also Ericsson sold its shares and licensed today. I.e. that the Sony Ericsson also other operating systems run on devices (Microsoft mobile and Linux).

Now part of Symbian Nokia, which also regularly publish updates to the software. Per license allows use also other manufacturers.

Today Symbian, as already mentioned, has a great influence on the entire mobile phone industry. You can see this not only by the fact that many companies are interested in the operating system and’s license, but also directly at the high market share.

Use of Symbian mobile devices

Before all things is inserted the operating system Symbian Smartphones. This is mainly because that it is an easy to use system that is stable and reliable. At Symbian, the focus is clearly on the comfortable calling and the free extensibility through programs and third-party plugins. Not in the Centre, but very well integrated, additional functions such as word processing, E-Mail, screen presentations (PowerPoint) or spreadsheet.

In favour of speed, stability and usability is offered mostly simplified functionality, convenient control, but just not all-encompassing functionality guaranteed. If you therefore use more phone calls than E-mail, surfing or word processing, Symbian is right for you! If your cell phone GPS support, so you can use with your mobile phone, such as some models of the Nokia N series, also navigation tools.

If you want to see your Smartphone rather than ultra mobile laptop and very extensively use these functions, you access to Windows Mobile. The Microsoft operating system is adapted in the current version of Windows Vista and has a wide range of functions. Criticism is here, however, but the usability of the phone features, the comparatively high hardware requirements of the used devices and the instability of the software. Extensibility of Symbian

before all things there are four major manufacturers, which draw attention with Symbian devices. These are Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG and Samsung. More and more viruses for this platform appear by the popularity of the operating system, so you should take as a user on what programs you install. Nokia writes in the FAQs (frequently asked questions) on his page:
