Population

According to Countryaah website, Bosnia-Herzegovina has approx. 3.7 million residents.

Ethnic composition

Bosnians 48%, Serbs 37%, Croats 14%, other minorities 1%.

Religious affiliation

There is a composition of many religions in Bosnia Herzegovina. The majority of around 48% are Muslims, followed by Serbian Orthodox (around 34%) and Catholics (around 15%).

National languages

The national languages are Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian. After the fall of Yugoslavia, the various dialects were recognized as their own languages.

The Serbs use the Cyrillic alphabet, the Croats and Bosniaks the Latin.

Bosnia-Herzegovina has a common border with a total of two countries:

  • Serbia and Montenegro with a length of around 525 km.

Tidal range

Compare

The world’s highest tidal range can be found in the Bay of Fundy in Canada, where it is up to 16 m, and at spring tide even over 20 m. The Bay of Fundy is located on the Atlantic between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, which is called Nova Scotia in German and whose capital is Halifax. On the German North Sea coast it varies between 1 m and 3 m. In the western Baltic Sea, on the other hand, the tidal range is only 0.3 m, while it is barely noticeable in the eastern Baltic Sea.

The country extends over the following geographical latitude (abbreviation Δφ) and geographical longitude (abbreviation Δλ):

The highest point of the sun in Sarajevo

Sarajevo lies at a northern latitude of around φ = 44 °.

The longest river in the country is the Sava with a length of around 945 km.

Lakes

Busko

The country includes numerous smaller and larger lakes. The largest lake is the Busko with an area of about 56 km². Other larger lakes are:

  • Bilecko with an area of around 33 km2
  • Modracko with an area of around 17 km2
  • Jablanicko with an area of around 13 km2

Adriatic, Mediterranean

As mentioned above, the country borders on the Adriatic Sea (Adriatic Sea) – part of the Mediterranean Sea – for a length of around 21 km.
