To get to the heart of the semester abroad: DO IT !. There is only one such possibility.
Application process:
I thought about not going abroad beforehand because the application process will be too complicated and difficult. In retrospect, this thought turned out to be “wrong”. MicroEDU has very, very good documents for the application process, which even show the timing well and realistically.
However, you have to do a few things and have money ready at the beginning. Things like applying to the university and applying for a visa are costs that you have to bear. On the part of the Americans, the process is sometimes like harassment. Questions like: “Are you planning to engage in prostitution?”, “Are you a head of a terrorist organization?” “Have you already coerced a woman to have an abortion?” These questions are very bizarre, but must be answered honestly. The highlight of the US necessities was the visit to the American embassy in Berlin, where you have to wait 3 hours for a 3-minute conversation with 3 questions. The questions were: “What do you study?”, “Why USA?” “How long will you stay in US?”. So you don’t have to be afraid
Applying to the university didn’t cause me any problems. By the way: The tuition fees (~ 4000 $) are only “necessary” when you are about to leave. You can pay comfortably online from Germany. But you also have the option to pay this in the first week. So you don’t have to provide $ 4,000 when you apply.
The course is designed to be very simple. There are classes that are difficult, but that’s about 1% of the total.
American studies have the following rule: “Studying in the USA means that every student can make it through their performance.” From Germany I knew the following rule: “The course is designed in such a way that not every student can do it.”

You wonder why university is easy?
We had “open book” exams in 2 courses, so we were allowed to use our laptop and Ipad. If that’s not enough, we can also use the cell phone. The lecturers didn’t mind that the cell phones were constantly vibrating thanks to WhatsApp. We were even allowed to correct our own exam with a lecturer. So you can’t go wrong. If you are still too stupid to hear the solutions (so hear the solution, cross out the wrong answer, tick the right solution and put a hook), then you still have the chance to research the correct answer and get the points afterwards. Do you believe me now that it’s really easy?
On-site support:
It quickly becomes clear that you have to take care of yourself. If possible, you should set up a network beforehand, otherwise you will be alone quickly. That becomes problematic because the Americans have a very complicated and sometimes incomprehensible organization. I did not need / did not use the support from MicroEDU.
Accommodation search:
ATTENTION I HAVE BEEN A VICTIM OF FRAUD !!! I checked the Craigslist for an apartment. I received an answer and I really wanted to get the apartment. Unfortunately, it was an apartment that didn’t exist. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE! It is okay if you are looking for an apartment on the Craigslist, but only with a personal appointment on site. Statements like “I live in Texas and therefore cannot show up at my second home”. Let it be. That’s cheating. If you make a payment, then only if you have been in the apartment once. I then lived in the City View Apartment with other Germans. It was a wonderful time and the prices are very affordable if you share it. At first I wanted to live alone, but a flat share is really a good thing. So if you think: “I want to live alone”, should rather opt for a flat share because you get lonely and lonely in the USA very, very quickly. Getting City View apartments is very expensive in the beginning and probably also very stressful. Unfortunately, you have to pay a fee to register. That scared me off at first. Now I know that City View is perfect for university. 10 minutes walk, a fantastic pool, lots of people nearby and a wonderful view over the city.
Free time activities:
Yes, you can do a lot, yes there is a lot. Unfortunately not in Hayward. Evening life in Hayward is dead. There is a lot to do during the day. For example, I played soccer at university, often lay by the pool, went shopping a lot, and traveled a lot. Unfortunately, I wasn’t so enthusiastic about San Francisco, so I can only brag about Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, Malibu Beach,…
Do’s and Dont’s:
JDo it, but keep my words with the rooms in mind. These are the do’s and don’t’s
MicroEDU:
As I described at the beginning, MicroEDU has a lot of high quality and comprehensive documents. If you have personal problems, MicroEDU helps and answers individual questions.JThey take you by the hand very well and, to my surprise, answer competently. (This is not the case with others in the USA) At no point did I feel that I was being poorly looked after. JMicroEDU, please keep it up and thank you again
JMicroEDU = best (and for us really free) decision
Ps: Do you understand me now, why everyone should do a semester abroad?
