Population
According to Countryaah website, the Fiji Islands have about 880,000 residents.
Ethnic composition
Around 57% of the population are Fijians, a mixture of Melanesians and Polynesians, 37% are Indian and 6% are European. In addition, various Pacific ethnic groups and overseas Chinese live in Fiji.
Religious affiliation
The main religion on the Fiji Islands is Christianity with around 52% (37% Methodists, 9% Catholics). Furthermore, about 38% are Hindu, 8% Muslim and 2% have another religion.
National languages
The official language is English; Fiji and Hindustani are also spoken.

Geography
The islands of Fiji are located in the middle of the South Pacific, about 3,100 km northeast of Australia and 2,100 km north of New Zealand. Tonga is around 70 km away and Vanuatu is 1,100 km away. Fiji covers an area of 1.3 million km². Of this, however, only 18,272 km² is land – the rest is ocean. The island state has around 881,000 residents and the capital is Suva with residents. Fiji has a sea coast with a length of around 1,130 km.

The island state consists of 322 islands, 106 of which are inhabited.
The two main islands Viti Levu and Vanua Levu make up 84% of the area.
The island of Viti Levu has an area of 10,429 km² and Vanua Levu an area of 5,587 km². The third largest island is Taveuni, followed by Kadavu. The rest of the islands are very small. Tidal range
The mean tidal range on the Fiji Islands is 1 to 2 m.

The world’s highest tidal range can be found in the Bay of Fundy in Canada, where it is up to 16 meters, and at spring tide even over 20 meters. The Bay of Fundy is located on the Atlantic between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, which is called Nova Scotia in German and whose capital is Halifax.
On the German North Sea coast it varies between one and three meters. In the western Baltic Sea, on the other hand, the tidal range is only 0.3 meters, while it is barely noticeable in the eastern Baltic Sea.

The highest point of the sun in Suva
Suva, the capital of the Fiji Islands, lies on a southern latitude of φ = 08 °, and thus in the middle of the tropics.
If the sun or its image point is exactly above the city or the island, i.e. at 18 ° S, the sun is exactly vertically above the city. This happens exactly twice a year, roughly 21 days before December 21st and 21 days after December 21st.

The highest mountain in the country is the Tomanivi, with a height of 1,324 m on the island of Viti Levu.

The Fiji Islands border the Pacific Ocean with a total coastline of 1,130 km – more precisely, the Fischi Islands are located in the South Pacific, the so-called South Sea. This region of the Pacific Ocean includes the Polynesian Islands as well as parts of Melanesia and Micronesia.
