However, this is not High English, but a language peppered with African loan words, which can be called Liberian English. English is considered the mother tongue of only 2.5% of people. In addition to English, there are around 20 African tribal languages such as Mande (especially in the north and west) and Kru (especially in the south and east) as well as Golla and Kpelle. It must be pointed out, however, that none of the African languages has yet managed to assume a dominant position in the country. Many of the African languages have their own script. The most famous of these is certainly the Vai script, a syllabary script of the Vai people.

Highest point of the sun in Monrovia

Monrovia lies at a northern latitude of around φ = 06.5 °

If the declination of the sun has the value 06 ° 30 ‘north and the image point of the sun is thus above the city, the sun is perpendicular there. This happens twice a year, roughly 25 days after March 21st and 25 days before September 21st (for details see position of the sun).

Attention

If the image point of the sun and thus the declination is north of the latitude of Monrovia, the sun is not in the south at noon, as in our latitudes, but in the north. In this case, the sun moves from east to north to west, where, like us, it sets.
