Population

According to Countryaah website, Monaco has about 35,500 residents. However, around 30,000 French and 5,000 Italians come to the city-state every day to work.

Ethnic composition

The population of Monaco is made up of around 47% French, 17% Italian, 15% Monegasque and 3% German.

Religion

About 90% of the residents of Monaco are Catholic.

National languages Monegasque

Capital

Land border, length of coastline, tidal range

Monaco has only one border, namely with France – with a length of approx. 4.5 km and a coastline to the Mediterranean Sea of approx. 4.1 km. Area and population density

The Principality of Monaco lies on the edge of the French Maritime Alps and covers an area of only 202 hectares; that is 2.02 km². The state has a population density of around 16,750 people per km², making it the state with the highest population density in the world, ahead of Singapore.

In 1966, Prince Rainier III. started to increase the area of the land through landfills. In 19821 the then Crown Prince laid the foundation stone for the new city district on an area of around 40 hectares – Fontvieille.

The Mont Angel with a height of 1,148 m lies on the border between France and Monaco. The highest part of the mountain in the Monaco area is at an altitude of 161 m and is the highest point in Monaco.

It is located on the Chemin des Révoires, a path on the slope of the mountain.

Monaco borders the Mediterranean Sea for around 4.1 km.
